Our History
McArthur Insurance Agency was founded by Leon McArthur in 1917 in the Weidman State Bank. His was one of the first insurance agencies in the state of Michigan to represent Auto-Owners Insurance Company, which was founded in 1916. The agency stayed in the McArthur family for three generations, owned by his daughter Yvonne Pitts and her late husband Bernie Pitts, followed by his granddaughter Jan Apple and her late husband Ron Apple. In 2005, Jan sold the agency to Kurt Feight, Terry Kunst, and Niki Mathews of Mt. Pleasant Agency – Central Insurance in Mt. Pleasant. Through their leadership and agent Kim Flaugher, the agency continues to thrive.
Serving the Community for 100 Years
In 2017, McArthur Insurance Agency celebrated its 100-year anniversary and dedicated a new space, Centennial Square (photographed below), to the community of Weidman in honor of the agency’s founder, Leon McArthur, and his family. The agency also announced the McArthur Insurance Agency Community Improvement Fund for Weidman through the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation. This fund has already been utilized to support Project Playground in Weidman, which broke ground in August 2017.
